On the occasion of what would have been her 85th birthday had her bright light not been snuffed out by hatred, we remember Anne Frank, who was born on June 12, 1929. Her story of two years in hiding with her family in an Amsterdam attic during the Nazi occupation has been translated into 67 languages and read by thirty million people. The family was subsequently discovered and Anne and her sister perished in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp.
We pay homage to this courageous and eloquent young woman whose short life has inspired so many by sharing some of her words:
We pay homage to this courageous and eloquent young woman whose short life has inspired so many by sharing some of her words:
"It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can't build my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery and death." – Anne Frank
“And finally I twist my heart round again, so that the bad is on the outside and the good is on the inside, and keep on trying to find a way of becoming what I would so like to be, and could be, if there weren't any other people living in the world.” – Anne Frank
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” – Anne Frank
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” – Anne Frank
“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.” – Anne Frank
